Australia Climate change – should all new homes and commercial buildings have solar panels?

Grid Feed
The power that is fed into the grid is metered, as is the power you consume. Through agreement with your local supply authority, you only pay for the power you use that is in excess of the power you produce. If your system repeatedly produces more than you consume, your retailer will pay you for the excess power. (This statement is taken from a solar installation website)

This seems to me to make a lot of sense.

I realise the cost is high, it seems to make sense to me to incorporate the cost into the initial building costs.

We now have water tanks installed at the building stage. Surely solar panels should be next.

I would like to know if this would help in any way with global warming.

I don't want nuclear power stations. Would this alleviate the need for new power stations

I live in Melbourne, and I agree with your idea.
New buildings should have a minimum requirement for solar panels, connected to the grid as well as water tanks and grey water systems.
It would also be nice for the govt to assist those who choose to fit solar panels, same as they do for water saving devices.
That would be a good thing to do with some of the budget surpluses.

Need help comming up with a name for our store?

I am working for a company that is hoping to franchise their business in the next couple of months. We are a Solar solutions company, specializing in residential and commercial Solar Power/energy. However, we are stumped on what to name the retail stores. Any ideas from all you creative folks out there would be great….Im getting pressure on deadlines here :)

A couple of guidelines:

1) We are looking for a 1 to 2 words that have impact – it should capture people’s attention. We will put “solar solutions” or something to that effect below the word(s) to describe what we do.
2) Words like solar, sun, bright, etc are off limits – there are a too many solar companies that have them trademarked. Keep in mind, we are trying to differentiate ourselves from others (think Apple computer)

Any suggestions are greatly appreciated

Is a solar water heater worth installing on the roof of my house?

I live in Birmingham UK and have a south facing house roof.Considering the technical requirements and the significant capital cost of installing such a system , will it provide useful hot water in reality. I am interested to hear from people who are not purely eco-evangelists?

* Judging from what I understand about your local climate, I'd say it's a waste of time and money.
